Welcome to My Exceptional Classroom

Hello! My name is Melissa Stanley and I am a self-contained cross categorical exceptional children's teacher here. This is my 19th year teaching exceptional children here at KCS. I love my job and the children that I work with.

College(s) Attended/Degrees Earned:
Keuka College: Elementary and Special Education
University North Carolina at Charlotte: Masters in Reading Education

Educational Philosophy/Vision:
Time sure does fly by when we are having fun learning!

   What are we doing:
Reading-We continue to work on your child's reading level.

Math- We continue working on our fluency with number identification and addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts.

Your child will have homework every night.
They need to read or be read to for at least 20 minutes a night.
They are given their Letter Land homework on Monday and it is due on Friday when they will have their spelling test.

Things parents/guardians can do to help your child:

READ, READ, READ!!! While your child is reading you can ask them questions about what is happening to help with their comprehension skills. You can also read to them to model fluent reading. The more your child reads and sees you read the more they will understand how important reading is in their daily lives.
WRITE, WRITE, WRITE!!! Have your child keep a journal where they write about their day. Allow them to help write lists, grocery lists, to do lists, packing lists. Have them write letters and notes to friends and family members.
MATH, MATH, MATH!!! Have your child count your change. Allow them to help you cook where you need to follow a recipe and measure out ingredients. .
