Welcome to My Classroom

Welcome to our class!  I am so excited to have your child in my classroom. If at any time you need to contact me, you may call the school at 704-932-4161, or email me.
Currently I am in my twenty-sixth year of teaching here at Kannapolis City Schools, most of which has been spent in first grade. When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Scott, and our son.

College(s) Attended/Degrees Earned:
I have a degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in Early Childhood Education. I was Nationally Board Certified in the area of Early Childhood.

Here is what is going on in the month of March...

     *Letterland-Words with long vowels and long vowel blends: i, o,  oa, ow, ie, igh, ue, ew
     *Literacy-Elements of a story:  characters, setting problem, solution; beginning, middle, 
                   and end; making connections between characters, ideas, or information
                  -Identify who is telling a story at various points in a text
                  -Use reading strategies to read with accuracy and fluency
                  -Understanding the central message of a story and how we can apply it in our own 
     *Poetry Journals-Birthday Invitation; Ears Hear
 *Writing-Opinion Writing, sharing with others what we think!

     Emphasis on composing numbers with two or three addends and solving addition and subtraction problems:
     *Find 2-addend combinations of 10
     *Retell the action and sequence and solve addition and subtraction story problems
     *Combine tow small quantities by counting on
     *Subtract one small quantity from another
