Welcome to My Classroom

Welcome to our class!  I am so excited to have your child in my classroom. If at any time you need to contact me, you may call the school at 704-932-4161, or email me.
 
Currently I am in my twenty-sixth year of teaching here at Kannapolis City Schools, most of which has been spent in first grade. When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Scott, and our son.

 
College(s) Attended/Degrees Earned:
I have a degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in Early Childhood Education. I was Nationally Board Certified in the area of Early Childhood.

Here is what is going on in the month of May and June...

Literacy
     *Letterland-Words with -r controlled vowels (-ar, -or, -ir, -ur, er)' words with -ow and -ou; 
                    words with -oi and -oy
     *Literacy-Elements of non-fiction books (text features)
                  -Use reading strategies to read with accuracy and fluency
                  -Understanding the central message of a story and how we can apply it in our own 
                    lives
     *Poetry Journals-Leap and Dance; A Spike of Green
   
 *Writing-Informative writing, telling others "how-to" do something we are experts at doing!
                  Completing a shared research project

Math
     Emphasis on place value, using tens and ones :
     *Identify the number in the tens place and the ones place when given a 2 digit number
     *Compose a 2 digit number with base ten blocks
     *Identify 10 more and 10 less when given a number between 1 and 120


Science/Social Studies
     *Earth Materials (soil, rocks, minerals, water) and Natural Resources-how are they useful for 
       solving human problems and sustaining plant/animal life
     *Economics-good and services; needs and wants; earning and speiding
