Welcome to My Classroom

My name is Miriam Stirewalt and I am a native of Kannapolis and a product of Kannapolis City Schools.  Prior to obtaining my teaching degree I was an instructional assistant at Fred L. Wilson Elementary for 12.5 years.  During the time I worked full-time and had two small children, I completed my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte. My husband, who is also an educator and I have two children, ages 8 and 3.  I am a huge advocate for the arts as it plays a large part of my life.  If you come into my classroom you will most certainly hear music of some kind.  I love to sing and look forward to integrating the arts into my daily instruction!

Feel free to contact me by email or by school phone at (704) 932-4161.

Educational Philosophy/Vision:

I work to create a community that includes respect, trust, responsibility and hard work in each student.  I believe in cooperation and collaboration so that every child receives an equal opportunity to learn.  I feel that building a strong relationship between school and home is a key to student achievement.  I am extremely excited about working together to make this a successful year for you and your child.

What parents can do to help:

Read with your child! Whether you let your child read independently, to you, or you read to him/her - it is so beneficial for students to be exposed to literature. Please read with your child every night!
