Educational Philosophy/Vision:

I believe in progressive, holistic education, which requires integration across fields of study. This means my classroom will foster creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, community responsibility, and lifelong learning. In order to do well in my classroom, students must be curious, persevere when solving problems, and be open to solving problems in multiple ways. Students will be creating artifacts that exemplify their understanding of content throughout the year. Some artifacts may be arts-based (such as a painting or sculpture), while others may be technology-based (such as a powerpoint presentation, blog, wiki, or video).

I personally emphasize writing across the curriculum. Students will be responsible for keeping up with interactive notebooks for each subject and will reflect upon and write about their learning throughout the year.

I greatly believe success within the classroom requires a strong sense of community and belonging. Students in my classroom are expected to treat each other with respect and dignity.

What Can Parents/Guardians do to Help?

Parents may sign agendas each night to make sure your student is keeping up with their homework assignments. Students will have reading homework each night. Students may be assigned math homework as needed. Students are responsible for completing science vocabulary cards for each unit.

Students will bring home their binders each night. Artifacts showing mastery will be kept in each student's binder. Students will also be graphing their assessment data in their Data Tracking folders.

Parents may sign up for a Class Dojo account. Class Dojo percentages will be sent home with each progress and report card. Students who score 80% or higher on their Class Dojo behavior percentage will be invited to attend an after school celebration each quarter.
