Educational Philosophy/Vision: As an Art teacher I believe my role in the classroom is to be a facilitator to students allowing them to make connections, problem solve, and explore.  It is also my responsibility to cultivate a life long interest and appreciation of Art and Artmaking.

We will be learning:

KindergartenWe will be learning the basic elements and principles of design (line, shape, color, form, texture, value, balance, contrast, emphasis, movement, rhythm, pattern, unity) and integrating with Kindergarten teachers on their classroom lessons. We will focus on building our fine motor skills to help with our growth!

1st grade: We will be discussing and practicing the basic elements and principles of design. Students are also learning about lives and artwork of famous artists and integrating classroom studies in reading, math, science, and social studies into their artwork.

2nd grade: We will be practicing the basic elements and principles of design, while being introduced to new artists and art mediums used to create artwork. Students will incorporate math, science, reading, and social studies in their artwork.

3rd grade: We will be using the basic elements and principles of design, as well as, various art mediums to explore our creativity. We will be integrating with classroom teachers in reading, math, science, and social studies to create a work of art while learning about famous artists and their artwork.

4th grade: We will be using the basic elements and principles of design with math, reading, science and social studies and referencing famous artists to create artwork. Some of the art projects will be based on the state of North Carolina.

EC: We will be working on and strengthening our fine motor skills while incorporating the basic elements and principles of design.

Things parents/guardians can do to help: 
- Encourage drawing pictures and objects around the house by using basic shapes. 
-Encourage free drawing
-Play/work with modeling clay or Playdo to strengthen muscles in hands.
-Explore famous artists and their artwork: Vincent Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Georgia O'Keefe, Grandma Moses, Faith Ringold, Romare Bearden, etc
