What Are We Learning?

This quarter is all about multiplication and problem-solving!  We will discuss the relationship between addition and multiplication and strategies to make representations of equal groups in multiplication.  We will also review addition and subtraction strategies through solving multi-step word problems.

We will begin our author's study of Patricia Palacco to practice reading and writing comprehension skills (i.e. compare/contrast, character traits/response).  We are discussing the habits of good readers as we read and comprehend grade-level text through our Daily 5 procedures for independent/group work.

We are practicing the habits of good writers using strategies from the writing process (i.e. brainstorm, draft, edit, publish) to writing true personal stories.  We are review grammar skills (i.e. capitalization, punctuation), language skills related to parts of speech (i.e. nouns, verbs, adjectives) and phonics (i.e. prefixes, suffixes).

Social Studies

We are about the history of our local/regional communities and how they have changed over time.  We will also discuss the functions of our local government of Kannapolis.

We are studying the basic functions of the skeletal and muscular systems of our bodies.  We will discuss the structure and function of plants and how it affects our environment.

Don't have a Class Dojo account?  No worries - All you have to do is email me your mobile number or email address and I will send you an invite to get you set up!
